Am I Good Enough?

Am I Good Enough?

I think we can agree that “Am I good enough?” is a question we’ve all asked ourselves. Everything we’re starting these days is brand new. Did we learn enough in school to succeed in the real world? How much are we expected to know when we’re brand new?

For me, my biggest issue with the real world is wondering if I’m good enough at what I’m doing. I want more than anything to work in the broadcast industry. I love storytelling and I think 21st century journalism is live storytelling because we now have the technology to do so. We have the ability to be there as real news is unfolding. What more could I want than to be able to tell the public about things that are happening in the moment?

That being said, have you ever seen a news anchor that is anything less than perfect? No. They’re all drop-dead gorgeous with good hair and clothes and look put together. Why does it have to be this way? Why can’t people be hired on their ability instead of their looks?

Some days I look in the mirror and I say, “You’re hot; you can do anything you want” and other days it’s more like, “Well you look like you got hit by a truck, better luck next time.”

The fact that the only TV broadcasters we see are beautiful speaks to a deeper issue that America has been dealing with for some time now and an issue that many people fall victim to.

In college we all cared about what we looked like, but nothing was stopping most of us from late night pizza or mac and cheese. But now, we’re adults. We’re supposed to be put together and healthy and not binge drink (as much). Let me tell you, it’s exhausting. Being an adult in general is exhasting but having to eat right and exercise on top of it just adds more to our work load.

Most of us have questioned if we’re good enough at least once since graduation. But let me just remind you in case no one else has, you are. You’re more than good enough and you can do it. You can do whatever it is you want, even if society tells you that you can’t. Don’t give up because you are good enough. If you’re not yet, you will be if you just keep working at whatever it is you want to be good at.

Motivation is a powerful thing; don’t ever lose yours.
